Label:
Merge Records

Product Description: Out in the Storm, Katie Crutchfield’s fourth album as Waxahatchee and her second release with Merge, is the blazing result of a woman reawakened. Her most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life. As Crutchfield prepared for the release of her Merge debut Ivy Tripp, she found herself depleted emotionally and professionally amidst the dissolution of a noxious relationship. “Ivy Tripp doesn’t really have any resolution. It’s a lot of beating around the bush, and superficially trying to see my life clearly, but just barely scratching the surface. Out in the Storm digs into what I was going through without blinking. It’s a very honest record about a time in which I was not honest with myself.” The album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello, a producer, recording engineer, and mixer known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Agnello and Crutchfield worked together for most of December 2016, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello’s suggestion, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance their unity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases, resulting in one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date.

A BRAND NEW ME - THE COMPLETE PHILADELPHIA SESSIONS (Dusty Springfield)

JUMP BACK TO TOP

Artist:
Dusty Springfield

Genre:
Pop

Total Length:
52:12

Label:
Real Gone Music

Purchasing Links:
CD, iTunes

Product Description: Having issued collections of her lost 1971 Jeff Barry-produced sessions (Faithful) and her entire 1970-1971 U.K. sessions (Come for a Dream), we have made chronicling the hallowed early ‘70s period of Dusty Springfield’s career something of a mission here at Real Gone Music. And we have saved what just might be the best for last—this collection brings together, for the first time ever, all of the historic recordings made by Dusty at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with Gamble-Huff Productions for Atlantic Records. The 17 selections cover the ten 1969 recordings issued on Springfield's 1970 album A Brand New Me— including the hit title song—plus 7 additional tracks from 1970 including the single "I Wanna Be a Free Girl," outtakes not issued until the 1990s on various compilations, and a previously unreleased track, “Sweet Charlie .” Additionally, because former iterations of this material have not been sonically quite up to snuff, each track is newly-remixed from the original multi-track masters by Ted Carfrae! Liner notes by Joe Marchese and rare images from Dusty’s own collection complete this invaluable look at the seductive Ms. Springfield’s foray into the Philly Soul sound. Put this together with our other Real Gone Dusty retrospectives and you have the full picture of Dusty’s recordings from 1969-1971 that immediately followed her Dusty In Memphis pinnacle!

THE SPECTRUM (Daley)

JUMP BACK TO TOP

Artist:
Daley

Genre:
R&B, Soul

Total Length:
48:57

Label:
BMG/The End Records

Purchasing Links:
CD, MP3, iTunes

Product Description: Daley is a singer, songwriter and recording artist hailing from Manchester, UK. A British boy who grew up on the sounds of Prince, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, D’Angelo, Radiohead and Oasis - Daley first became prominent after co-writing and featuring on the Gorillaz hit ‘Doncamatic’ under the wing of the band's creator Damon Albarn in London. He has since become one of the UK's most respected musical exports, recording and touring on both sides of the Atlantic and working with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Miguel, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Maxwell, Jill Scott and Marsha Ambrosius. His first solo work, the 'Those Who Wait' EP was independently released and introduced the world to Daley's brand of Alternative R&B / Soul, experimental Pop… and an undeniable male voice. It gave rise to an unexpected surge of popularity in the US with Marsha Ambrosius assisted duet 'Alone Together' - which after a tentative release became a runaway Top 5 hit at R&B radio. Largely hailed a 'new classic’ the song garnered Daley kudos from The Grammys, BET, Soul Train and MOBO awards and a loyal State-side fanbase. The following year saw Top 20 singles in the UK charts - 'Remember Me' featuring Jessie J and 'Broken'. His debut album 'Days & Nights' was released shortly after via Universal Republic Records, to critical acclaim and boasting contributions from Pharrell Williams, Illangelo (The Weeknd), Bernard Butler (Suede) and Andre Harris (Usher, Jill Scott). The album gave rise to another Top 10 R&B radio single ‘Look Up’ and was followed by several sold-out headline tours around the US and Europe. Daley described the project as a ‘diary of sorts’, showcasing a selection of his most vulnerable, creative and carefully crafted songs to date. Currently adding the final touches to his second album project, drawing on experiences both professional and personal over the last two years including the loss of close friend and manager Richard Antwi, Daley is poised to open the door on the next chapter of his musical journey with renewed inspiration... and eagerly awaited new music.

Diana Damrau

Genre:
Classical

Total Length:
1:21:21

Label:
Erato/Warner Classics

Purchasing Links:
CD, MP3, iTunes

Product Description: Giacomo Meyerbeer, the master of Parisian grand opéra, was hugely successful in his time and a major influence on Verdi and Wagner. His music has fascinated Diana Damrau since her student days. With her brilliant coloratura, lyricism and dramatic power, the soprano rises triumphantly to the vocal and expressive challenges of arias from 10 of his operas, singing in French, Italian and German. Two of the arias receive their world premiere recording with this album. The idea of a Meyerbeer album has been close to Diana Damrau’s heart since she first recorded for Erato back in 2006. She became fascinated by the composer’s music as a student in Würzburg, when she was invited to perform his cantata Gli amori di Teolinda. “I immersed myself in Meyerbeer’s world,” she explains, “and was excited by his multifaceted writing for the voice, by his orchestral colours, his theatrical instincts, the powerful and varied way in which he expresses emotion, his splendid melodies and, last but not least, his ability to capture precisely the right ‘national style’. If you compare his Italian, German and French works, it is like listening to three different composers.”
