Margot Robbie ("Suicide Squad") is in talks to star as Queen Elizabeth in the upcoming historical drama "Mary Queen of Scots". The film will be directed by Josie Rourke ("The Vote") and it will focus on Mary Stuart's (Saoirse Ronan) attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, only to find herself condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.
The screenplay is written by Michael Hirst ("Elizabeth", "The Tudors") and Penelope Skinner ("How I Live Now"). Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") from Working Title will serve as producers. The project has not been greenlit, but according to sources, it's only a formality at this point, particularly with a big name like Robbie attached.
Robbie is also starring in the biopic "Goodbye Christopher Robin" alongside Kelly Macdonald and Domhnall Gleeson, and has recently finished filming another biopic, the Tonya Harding film "I, Tonya".
