We finally have the title and a teaser poster for Rian Johnson's highly anticipated "Star Wars: Episode VIII". The sequel will be titled "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". Not a whole lot to say here, except that this one will keep fans puzzled right until the film opens in theaters on December 15th.
Note that the title refers to the last of the Jedi, but that says nothing about the Sith. I expect there will be at least one of those around for a spectacular lightsaber battle. Everything will probably build towards a real showdown between a better trained Rey and a more evil and self-controlled Kylo Ren.
The film will also star franchise newcomers Laure Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran. Everyone else will return, except for the one we lost in "The Force Awakens".
Here is the official press release, and the poster below:
"We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled for release December 15, 2017."
