"Live By Night" is the latest directorial effort from Ben Affleck ("Argo"), and his second adaptation of a Dennis Lehane best-seller following the 2007 film "Gone Baby Gone", which starred his brother Casey Affleck.
Affleck also wrote the script and stars in the lead role as Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston Police Superintendent and World War I veteran who chose the path of an outlaw. When he crosses a powerful mob boss by stealing his mistress, his whole world comes crashing down, leading him down a path of revenge that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa's steamy rum-running underworld.
The film also stars Chris Messina, Elle Fanning, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Cooper, Miguel, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Titul Welliver and Robert Glenister.
"Live By Night" opened in limited release on December 25th, 2016, and expanded nationwide on January 13th.

"“Live by Night” is set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld. "
