The story is set in the year 2044 in a virtual universe called The OASIS, in which Wade Watts, a poor orphan, competes in a treasure hunt for a hidden Easter Egg. The competition was launched by the creator of the OASIS upon his death, and the winner would inherit his real fortune and full control over the virtual world.
If negotiations are successful, Cooke will play Wade's love interest, a blogger from Canada and competitor in the egg hunt. The shortlist for the role also included Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke. It has been reported that Nick Robinson (Jurassic World") is the favorite for the male lead.
The film will be developed by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.
