Tom Holland Is Marvel's New Spider-Man

Tom Holland is Marvel's New Spider-Man
It was a fierce battle, but Marvel finally selected the young actor who will be their new Spider-Man. Tom Holland, whom you might recognize from the 2012 tsunami drama "The Impossible", will be the new webslinger and he will first make an appearance in the studio's "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016, before appearing in a standalone Spider-Man film in 2017. The 19-year-old English actor was chosen over other young contenders such as Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.

Marvel has also chosen a director for the standalone film. Jon Watts ("Cop Car") will helm the 2017 reboot. The existence of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the result of a rather unusual partnership between Marvel and Sony, the latter being the studio in charge of bringing Spidey to the big screen in two different franchises already. Holland will be the third actor to play the superhero since 2002. Will audiences be able to stomach a second reboot ? Time will tell.

Tom Holland can also be seen this year in Ron Howard's "In the Heart of the Sea" which opens in December.
