The Freddie Mercury biopic has been in the works for quite a long time. At first it was supposed to move forward with Sacha Baron Cohen set to star and Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables") on board to direct, but creative differences between Queen band members and Cohen led to delays and eventually to the departure of the actor and director. Soon afterwards, Dexter Fletcher came aboard to direct with Ben Whishaw ("Skyfall") attached to star, but creative differences once again got in the way.
But all that seems to be in the past since yesterday, Queen's manager Jim Beach announced a major breakthrough at the Artist & Management Awards. He stated that Sacha Baron Cohen has been persuaded to come back and not only star, but also write, produce and direct the film. I suppose that's one way of dealing with creative differences.
