Kathryn Bigelow to Direct Bowe Bergdahl Movie

"Zero Dark Thirty" and "The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow has signed on to direct an untitled film about United States Army soldier Bowe Bergdahl who was captured by the Taliban after leaving his post in unclear circumstances and held for five years before being released in 2014 in a controversial prisoner exchange. Bergdahl is currently facing desertion charges.

Bigelow will collaborate with writer Mark Boal once again and "Zero Dark Thirty" producer Megan Ellison will back the production. Ellison and Bigelow are also developing another project, "The True American", based on the book "The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas" by Anand Giridharadas, about post-9/11, self-styled "American Terrorist" Mark Stroman who murdered two immigrants in Texas, while a third man survived being shot in the head during Stroman's spree.

Bigelow and Boal were previously trying to get the South American drug trade movie "Triple Frontier" off the ground, but that project has been "pushed to the side" for now.
