The Directors Guild of America announced their winners last night. Pretty much as expected, Alejandro G. Iñárritu won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for his work on "Birdman". The film has now performed the rare feat of winning the PGA, SAG and DGA awards, a performance equalled by only 8 other films in history: "Argo", "The King's Speech", "Slumdog Millionaire", "No Country for Old Men", "The Lord of The Rings: Return of the Kings", "Chicago", "American Beauty" and "Apollo 13". Of these 8, only "Apollo 13" failed to secure Best Picture and Best Director wins at the Oscars. So, the Academy Awards race is pretty much closed at this point, unless the Academy decides to surprise us and give Richard Linklater the Best Director Oscar.
