The new release, "Nightcrawler" and last week's No.1 movie "Ouija" collided over the weekend and it was only a matter of luck that the former took first place and the latter fell to second place. Even so, "Nightcrawler" is the lowest-grossing No. 1 movie since "Guardians of the Galaxy" took the top spot with $10.4 million in the first weekend of September. The film enjoyed rave reviews and plenty of positive notice for its star Jake Gyllenhaal who was the main drive for the film's publicity campaign. "Ouija" held its ground well only dropping 45% from its debut. Its domestic total now stands at $35 million.
The thriller Before I Go To Sleep starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth bombed in its first weekend with a $2 million gross and failed to make the top 10. Meanwhile "Fury" and "Gone Girl" are still going strong, with the latter becoming David Fincher's highest-grossing film.
