Trailer and Poster for R.I.P.D. Starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds

RIPD Jeff Bridges Ryan Reynolds

The first trailer and poster for the graphic novel adaptation "R.I.P.D." are here. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as a detective who is killed on the job and gets transferred to the afterlife unit R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department), where he is teamed up with a veteran sheriff played by Jeff Bridges. Together they must stop the dead from breaking into the world of the living.

The whole set-up sounds like "Men in Black". We get the same kind of weird enforcement agency fighting to protect our world from "alien" threats, and the pairing of a reluctant young cop with an older, experienced, wise-cracking enforcer. So far, it looks like the visuals and Jeff Bridges will make this worth watching, but I have a problem with the undead CGI effects. They look too cartoonish, although I suspect it's part of the movie's charm. After all, it's an action comedy, not a dark thriller. "R.I.P.D." also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon and Robert Knepper, and will be relesed on July 19, 2013.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

Official Synopsis

RIPD 2013 Film Poster
"Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.

Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way."
