In Theaters : STAR WARS EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE 3D (1999)

Official Synopsis : Sci-fi adventure which takes place before the birth of Luke Skywalker, featuring the friendship between the young Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, who would later become Darth Vader. The galactic government has been weakened, and when the peaceful planet of Naboo is threatened by the giant Trade Federation, it seems that nobody will step in to defend Queen Amidala and her people. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to find a settlement and discover the extent of the planet's peril. In the course of their adventures, they find a young slave, Anakin, whom Qui-Gon senses is destined to bring balance to the Force. Against Obi-Wan's suspicions, he decides to train Anakin as a Jedi Knight.

Genre: Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure

Critical Response : Mixed. Opinions that defend or accuse George Lucas' first prequel to the original "Star Wars" trilogy have not lost their intensity since the film's first release in 1999. Those who hated it hate it even worse, and those who enjoyed it are still having fun with it. The added 3D effects have similarly divided critics and the lingering impression is that the concept of a 3D re-release is redundant since many scenes do not benefit from the increase in visual depth. The Pod racing scene, however, is said to look amazing in 3D. Rated 58% on Rottentomatoes.com from 100 positive and 71 negative reviews (including reviews from its 1999 release - Average score : 5.8 out of 10).
