Producers Guild Awards Winners 2012

"The Artist" scores another win on its road to the Oscars. The Producers Guild bestowed its top honor to the silent movie, after last Sunday it had won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical. "The Artist" won over a strong list of contenders : "The Descendants", "War Horse", "The Help", "The Ides of March", "Bridesmaids", "Hugo", "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", "Midnight in Paris" and "Moneyball".

Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin" won the award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures. The competition in this category featured mostly sequels/prequels (Pixar's "Cars 2", Dreamwork's "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Puss in Boots"), except for Gore Verbinski's "Rango". "Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest" won for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures.

In television, "Downton Abbey" won for Long-Form Television (against HBO's "Mildred Pierce", "Cinema Verite and "Too Big To Fail"), "Modern Family" was victorious in the Episodic Television, Comedy category (for a second consecutive year beating out "Glee" and "30 Rock") and "Boardwalk Empire" secured the award for Episodic Television, Drama (faced with "The Good Wife", "Dexter", "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men").
