THE GREAT GATSBY - December 25, 2012
An adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, written and directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire. The movie is made on an estimated budget of $127M and will be filmed in 3D.
Official Synopsis: “The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
PACIFIC RIM - May 10, 2013.
A sci-fi actioner directed by Guillermo del Toro that deals with the invasion of monsters from a parallel universe and the ensuing battle in which humanity's forces use giant robot manned by two pilots. Some rewrites were done after the earthquake and tsunami catastrophe in Japan, because the story initially contained a sequence in which the city of Osaka was supposed to be destroyed by the monsters. The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Willem Dafoe, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr. The script is written by Travis Beacham ("Clash of the Titans").
TAKEN 2 - October 5, 2012
Official Synopsis: Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.
DIE HARD 5 - February 14, 2013
The fourth Die Hard sequel is set to begin production in January, 2012 and will once again star Bruce Willis as the immortal John McClane, who will now travel to Russia to save his son. The movie, titled "A Good Day to Die Hard" (eyes rolling), will be directed by John Moore ("Max Payne", "Flight of the Pheonix") and written by Skip Woods ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "Swordfish", "The A-Team"). So far, they haven't been able to decide if the movie will be rated R, or PG-13. I'm hoping R, because that's the very essence of a Die Hard movie.
