Official Synopsis : The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures'/Sony Pictures Animation's hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, they're forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York's Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. -- (C) Sony Pictures
Genre: Comedy, Family, Adventure
What to Expect : The usual average family movie with the familiar assortment of tired gags and expensive visual effects. Expect something in the lines of "Garfield" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Kids will have a blast, while adults count down the seconds. Oh, and the sequels have already been announced.
Critical Response : Devastatingly negative. Critics hated this one, which isn't really that surprising. According to the majority of reviewers, humor is nowhere to be found in this mess of a movie. It's cheesy, predictable and mean-spirited (and not in a good way). Take for example one critic's bitter remark : "I saw this one so you don't have to". Who says critics aren't brave souls ? The movie scored a low 17% on "Rottentomatoes.com", from 9 positive and 43 negative reviews.
