In Theaters, June 17, 2011 : MR POPPER'S PENGUINS

Official Synopsis : In this family comedy, Jim Carrey is Mr. Popper, a driven businessman who is clueless when it comes to the important things in life - until he inherits six penguins. Popper's penguins turn his swank New York apartment into a snowy winter wonderland - and the rest of his life upside-down. Filmed on a refrigerated soundstage with real Emperor Penguins, Mr. Popper's Penguins is a contemporary adaptation of the classic book. -- (C)Fox

What to Expect : Just your average silly comedy. Just think "Liar, Liar" with penguins. Jim Carrey does his usual slapstick routines, but he's charismatic enough to hold the show even in its lowest moments. Director Mark Waters previously worked on two Lindsay Lohan comedies "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday".

Critical Response : Mixed. While some let it off the hook for being an old-fashioned movie, appreciating Carrey's manic craft, others criticized it for being formulaic and forgettable. Then again, what summer comedy isn't. It's certainly not Jim Carrey's finest movie, but it could have done a lot worse. Currently it's rated 45% fresh on Rottentomatoes.com, with 31 positive/mixed reviews and 38 negative ones.
