Product Description: The story of a mother who will have to face one of the biggest problems that Canarian indigenous society suffered. An emotional and profound story about the love that leads a mother to face any threat to defend a son or daughter.
This was the 6th collaboration with director Armando Ravelo. On previous film we had a more traditional approach for the score, but for this one we wanted to try something different. To me, the way the film is shot is very unique. It took me a while to realize I needed to put aside previous concepts on how to score a story like this, and from scratch. The story takes place centuries ago, when a mother has herself to defend her baby from the brutality of cruel “hunters”. On the one hand we have the sweetness and human side of the main character, but on the other we have the wild and violent side of these “human hunters”. Armando asked me to think of these in terms of colors: blue for the more human/good side and red for the more dark/cruel side.
I chose a piano to represent the mother, the main character; concerning ethnic instruments, there are traditional elements like drums and sticks used as percussion, but because there are no pitched instruments in Canary Islands music tradition that we know, I chose a violin played in a way that sounds more like a woodwind instruments, this way being more ambiguous.
There are other elements like vocals and whispers, to represent the mystery and “ghostly” appearing of the main character to the eyes of the “hunters”.
