It's the second week with five new wide releases, but even though competition is growing, it looks like "Hobbs & Shaw" will dominate the box-office once again.
Sony's animated sequel "The Angry Birds Movie 2" is the first of the new releases, and as far as reviews go, it's an improvement of the first film. In fact, the film has become the highest rated video game movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, that's not saying much, considering how bad video game adaptation usually are, and judging movies based on Rotten Tomatoes scores is generally a bad idea. However, these are the facts, do with them what you will.
"The Angry Birds Movie 2" opened on Tuesday with $2.6 million from 3,869 theaters, and brought in another $1.7 million on Friday. The film is expected to gross around $12 million in its opening weekend and between $15-$17 million for the six-day total.
Looking to surpass the Angry Birds at the box-office is the R-rated comedy "Good Boys" produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The film has received a generally positive reception from critics and pundits expect this one to score between $12-$15 million from 3,204 locations, so it could easily finish in second place at the box-office.
Another sequel opened in theaters this week, the shark thriller "47 Meters Down: Uncaged". Given the success of its predecessor, which opened with $11.2 million and went on to gross $44.3 million against a $5 million budget, the new installment could end up somewhere between $10-15 million from 2,850 theaters. As you can see, it's going to be a tight race.
Also opening in theaters are Richard Linklater's mystery dramedy "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" starring Cate Blanchett, based on the novel of the same name by Maria Semple, and the Bruce Springsteen-inspired movie "Blinded by the Light". Both films are expected to compete for the last spots of the Top 10 with around $4 million.

But when things go ridiculously wrong, the drone is destroyed. Desperate to replace it before Max's dad (Will Forte, The Last Man on Earth) gets home, the boys skip school and set off on an odyssey of epically bad decisions involving some accidentally stolen drugs, frat-house paintball, and running from both the cops and terrifying teenage girls (Life of the Party's Molly Gordon and Ocean's Eight's Midori Francis).
