New releases this week are pretty slim, but how could it be any different when you have the Marvel behemoth "Avengers: Endgame" exploding into theaters. The 22nd installment in the MCU, and a bookend to a generation of Marvel superheroes that originated 11 years ago, "Endgame" continues from where "Infinity War" left off and it looks like both critics and moviegoers got what they wanted out of it. A powerful, emotional and thrilling blockbuster that is poised for box-office records.

"Avengers: Endgame" is looking at a Friday debut of over $140 million, as the film has already grossed $60 million from Thursday night previews. The studio is expecting a $300 million three-day opening. Last year, "Infinity War" opened with $106.3 million in its first day, finished its first weekend with $257.6 million, and went on to gross $678.8 million in its entire domestic run. Not to mention a whopping $2 billion worldwide total.

New limited releases this week include the modern Western "Little Woods" starring Lily James and Tessa Thompson, and the documentary "Carmine Street Guitars".

Synopses, details, critical/audience reception, trailers, and more after the jump.

CARMINE STREET GUITARS

Carmine Street Guitars Image

Official Synopsis

Once the centre of the New York bohemia, Greenwich Village is now home to lux restaurants, and buzzer door clothing stores catering to the nouveau riche. But one shop in the heart of the Village remains resilient to the encroaching gentrification: Carmine Street Guitars. There, custom guitar maker Rick Kelly and his young apprentice Cindy Hulej, build handcrafted guitars out of reclaimed wood from old hotels, bars, churches and other local buildings. Nothing looks or sounds quite like a Rick Kelly guitar, which is the reason they are embraced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Jim Jarmusch, just to name a few. Featuring a cast of prominent musicians and artists, the film captures five days in the life of Carmine Street Guitars, while examining an all-too-quickly vanishing way of life.
