DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 25, 2016

This week on DVD and Blu-ray we have some interesting picks. Among the top choices of films released this year are the social-media-age thriller "Nerve" starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco, the indie dramedy "Captain Fantastic" starring Viggo Mortensen, the James Wan-produced horror "Lights Out" starring Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello, and Eddie Murphy's interesting attempt at drama, "Mr. Church".

Collectors might want to waste no more time and grab the "Mad Max: High Octane Collection" which features all four films, as well as the "Black & Chrome" Edition of "Mad Max: Fury Road". And I would advise comedy fans to check out "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Big Hairy American Winning Edition", a new Blu-ray edition featuring the theatrical and unrated cuts of the film, a 4K restoration and a wealth of special features.

The classic films released on Blu-ray this week include "Fathom", "Suddenly", "Boy on a Dolphin", "The Exorcist III: Collector's Edition", "The Quiet Man", "The Night of the Grizzly" and more.

Check out the new movies and classic films released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 25, 2016 after the jump.

As the misfit bunch get to know each other, they unwittingly uncover a deep family secret that ultimately binds them together. Product Description: This masterpiece of black humor, beloved in Spain but too little seen elsewhere, threads a scathing critique of Franco-era values through a macabre farce about an undertaker who marries an executioner’s daughter and reluctantly takes over her father’s job so the family can keep their government-allotted apartment. As caustic today as it was in 1963, this early collaboration between Luis García Berlanga and his longtime screenwriter Rafael Azcona is an unerring depiction of what Berlanga called "the invisible traps that society sets up for us." A furiously funny personal attack on capital punishment, The Executioner escaped the state censors who sought to suppress it, and today is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish films of all time.

Product Description: In 1963, director Herschell Gordon Lewis pulled a cow s tongue out of an actress mouth on camera, and in doing so, changed the landscape of horror cinema forever. That sequence was just one of numerous gruesome gags featured in Blood Feast, the film credited as being the world s first gore movie. It s no exaggeration to say that the modern gross-out movies of today owe their very existence to the pioneering efforts of H.G. Lewis.

But whilst Lewis is most widely celebrated for his blood-and-guts epics (Two Thousand Maniacs!, The Wizard of Gore et al.), there s more to the prolific director than splatter. From tales of sordid photographers (Scum of the Earth) to sex robots (How to Make a Doll), from biker girl-gangs (She-Devils on Wheels) to youths-run-amok (Just for the Hell of It), and from psychic witches (Something Weird) to hard liquor-loving hillbillies (Moonshine Mountain), the filmography of H.G. Lewis reads like a veritable wish-list of exploitation movie madness.

Now, for the first time ever, Arrow Video is proud to present fourteen of the Godfather of Gore s most essential films (including nine Blu-ray world debuts), collected together in a Limited Edition set (only 2,500 in the U.S.) and packed full of eye-popping bonus content. So put your feet up, pour yourself a glass of good ol moonshine, and prepare yourself for a feast H.G. Lewis style!

Product Description: The Killing of America focuses on what the director feels is the decline of the United States. It features interviews from Ed Dorris, a retired sergeant of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, as well as Los Angeles County Coroner Thomas Noguchi. The documentary also shows several interviews with convicted killers such as Sirhan Sirhan as well as footage of murders and news broadcasts.

The Killing of America was initially shown in New York City in 1982 at The Public Theater, but did not receive a commercial release in the United States, although it did receive a home video release in Britain. The film received a wide release in Japan, where financial backers reportedly pressured Renan to add footage of peace vigils for John Lennon as a way to make the documentary less depressing. Years later the documentary would receive a 2013 North American release at Fantasia Festival in Canada.

The film uses music by Robert Houston, Buffalo Springfield, John Lennon, Nick Cash, and others.
