This week in theaters, journey to the Wild West and shoot some bad guys with "The Magnificent Seven". If you have kids, though, you might have to take them to see "Storks". In limited release, check out Kate Winslet's Australian drama "The Dressmaker" and the fraternity drama "Goat".

Synopses, details, critical reception, trailers, clips and more after the jump.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

magnificent-seven

As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

  • Metacritic: 54 out of 100 (16 positive, 24 mixed, 2 negative).

Of course, the 2016 "The Magnificent Seven" has little reason to exit, but on its own terms it's an entertaining popcorn action flick thanks to Antoine Fuqua's experience and a talented cast. It gets the job done. Nothing more, nothing less.

STORKS

storks

"Storks" is far from being a fine specimen due to its convoluted plot and bad dialogue. It does, however, make up for some of those shortcomings with enough enthusiasm to keep the kids entertained.

goat

His brother, Brett (Nick Jonas), is already established on campus and with a fraternity that allures Brad with its promise of protection, popularity, and life-long friendships. Brad is desperate to belong but as he sets out to join the fraternity his brother exhibits reservations, a sentiment that threatens to divide them. As the pledging ritual moves into hell week, a rite that promises to usher these unproven boys into manhood, the stakes violently increase with a series of torturous and humiliating events. What occurs in the name of ‘brotherhood’ tests both boys and their relationship in brutal ways.

  • Starring: Ben Schnetzer, James Franco, Virginia Gardner, Danny Flaherty

  • Director: Andrew Neel

  • Genre: Drama

  • Running Time: 96 min.

  • Rating: R for disturbing behavior involving hazing, strong sexual content and nudity, pervasive language, violence, alcohol abuse and some drug use

Critical Reception

  • Rottentomatoes: 75% (39 fresh, 13 rotten, score: 6.4/10)
  • Metacritic: 64 out of 100 (16 positive, 4 mixed, 2 negative).

Forget about the raunchy levity of "Neighbors", Andrew Neel's "Goat" is a brutal look at the toxic fratboy mentality and how it twists the concept of brotherhood. It's dark and hard to watch, but a must-see experience.
