SAUSAGE PARTY

Official Synopsis

Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated movie, is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. The film features the vocal talents of a who’s who of today’s comedy stars – Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.

  • Director: Greg Tiernan, Conrad Vernon

  • Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

  • Running Time: 89 min.

  • Rating: R for strong crude sexual content, pervasive language, and drug use

Critical Reception

  • Rottentomatoes: 83% (89 fresh, 18 rotten, score: 7.0/10)
  • Metacritic: 67 out of 100 (27 positive, 7 mixed, 1 negative).

"Sausage Party" breaks new ground by being the first ever R-rated CG animated feature, and a Pixar spoof of sorts. If you can take the offensive humor and buckets of profanity, the film has more substance than you might expect and unlike many similarly raunchy comedies, it isn't light on laughs.

PETE'S DRAGON

Official Synopsis

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.

Disney's "Pete's Dragon" is a charming update of their 1977 classic that offers updated visual effects but also a surprising amount of heart, bringing back memories of other similar works of family fantasy films like "E.T" and "The Iron Giant".

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Official Synopsis

Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her “husband” and manager, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.
