Weekend Box-Office Report: RIDE ALONG, JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT, THE NUT JOB, DEVIL'S DUE

Unsurprisingly, the action comedy "Ride Along" starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube stormed the box-office this weekend and with its $41 million gross (versus a $25 million budget), it has scored the best performance of all-time for the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. The previous record-holder was 2008's "Cloverfield" which grossed $40 million in three days.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.

The animated feature "The Nut Job" has achieved a much better performance than many expected, entering the top 10 at No.3 with $20 million. The film had a production budget of $42 million. The other animated film in the top 10, "Frozen" has dropped down to No. 5, but Disney can't complain, since their movie has grossed $759 million worldwide in 59 days in theaters.

The film which held the highest expectations of the week, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit", failed to attract an audience. The spy thriller, a reboot of the Tom Clancy franchise featuring the title character, opened at No. 4 with $17 million in the US and an additional $22 million overseas. The project cost $60 million, so the possibility of a sequel is in doubt.

The other new release of the week, the low-budget horror "Devil's Due", only grossed $8.5 million, which puts it at No.7 in its opening weekend. Even so, the film only cost $7 million, so they should be able to make a little bit of profit in the next weeks.

"American Hustle" received a boost at the box-office of aprox. 27% compared to the last weekend, due to the attention that the film is getting during the awards season. Last week the film earned 10 Oscar nominations and yesterday it received top honors at the SAG Awards. The film has grossed a total of $142 million worldwide in 38 days.
