Weekend Box-Office Report (May 31-June 2, 2013)

Will Smith and Jaden Smith in After Earth

M. Night Shyamalan's "After Earth" failed to attract the crowds that Sony was expecting. The big-budget sci-fi adventure opened at #3 with a modest $27M versus a $130M budget. The movie was conceived as a trilogy, but with a weak opening such as this it will be much harder for the sequel to get greenlit. The magician heist thriller "Now You See Me" beat Shyamalan's epic, but only by a small margin, opening at #2 with $28M. "Fast & Furious 6" held on to the top spot for a consecutive weekend, but dropped more than 60% from its opening gross.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.
