Weekend Box-Office Report (May 24-26, 2013)

Fast and Furious 6 Box Office

It was a spectacular weekend at the box-office and it was no surprise that "Fast & Furious 6" would climb to the top in its opening days. It's just that probably nobody expected it to open so big. The sixth in the successful franchise opened at #1 with a spectacular $98M, making it the best opening in the franchise. The dark comedy "The Hangover Part III" was no match to all that vehicular warfare, and so it opened at a modest second place with $42M, becoming the worst box-office grosser in the franchise. "The Hangover Part II" set a huge standard when it opened in May 2011 with $85M, but the catastrophic quality of that sequel diminished the third installment's chances, especially considering its competition. "Star Trek Into Darkness" held tight in third place with $38M, but its sharp drop confirms the fears of industry specialists who believe that this is not the huge box-office hit that Paramount was expecting from J.J. Abrams. Still, the budget has been recouped and the earnings are healthy enough to warrant another sequel, so "Star Trek" fans shouldn't worry.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.
