- It was revealed this week that Disney plans on releasing a "Star Wars" movie every year starting with 2015 when "Star Wars: Episode VII" comes out. They will alternate one "Episode" sequel with a spin-off film which have been rumored to be prequel origin stories for characters like Yoda, Boba Fett and a young Han Solo. Obviously, Disney plans to make a ton of money off the newly acquired franchise, but the trouble is that delivering movies on a tight schedule could be the death of the franchise. One reason is that the quality of the screenplays will probably be terrible. Even George Lucas released one "Star Wars" movie every three years. "Star Wars: Episode VII" will be directed by J.J. Abrams ("Star Trek: Into Darkness", "Lost") and written by Lawrence Kasdan ("The Empire Strikes Back") and Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: First Class").

Vin Diesel announced at the CinemaCon that "Fast & Furious 7" will be released on July 11, 2014. Also, Universal managed to find a replacement for franchise director Justin Lin, who dropped out of the seventh installment. The new director is James Wan ("Saw", "Insidious"). I think Wan is a great addition as he's proven himself to be a smart independent filmmaker and his slick visual style would be a great fit for this franchise, despite not being as bloody, or scary, as Wan's previous films. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will definitely return for "Fast & Furious 7", but Dwayne Johnson's involvement has not been announced, yet.

Sony announced that they are working on the "21 Jump Street" sequel. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will reprise their roles from the zany remake. Hill and writer Michael Bacall are currently working on the script and they expect to start filming this year, in September. "21 Jump Street" was a surprise hit last year and a sequel was expected. Next stop: College.

One of the more surprising announcements of the week was that Universal is moving forward with the sequel to "Snow White and the Huntsman". It's surprising because the first film was a bit of an underachiever at the box-office, with a domestic gross of $155 million versus a $170 million budget. Universal, however, must have liked the earnings from foreign markets, where the film did somewhat better with $241 million. Overall, this was not a huge hit, but the studio is interested in doing the sequel which they hope to release in 2015. Kirsten Stewart is confirmed to return, but director Rupert Sanders has passed on the offer to direct the sequel.

Another sequel that Universal is pushing forward is the one for "Pitch Perfect". Unlike "Snow White", this film was a surprise hit earning $65 million on a $17 million budget. The cast of the first film featured Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hanna Mae Lee, Ben Platt and Elizabeth Banks. It is unknown whether the entire cast will return. Writer Kay Cannon ("30 Rock") will return to pen the script for the sequel. Universal is planning to release the film in 2015.
