Christian Bale is set to star in the true story adventure movie
"Everest", which is based on a catastrophic mountain expedition which took place in 1996 and resulted in the death of eight climbers. The movie is directed by
Baltasar Kormakur (
"Contraband") and Bale will play the lead role of Rob Hall, the leader of a New Zealander group who ran Adventure Consultants. Kormakur has stated in an interview that this will be
"a very, very big movie with a medium budget." Indeed the movie has a budget of $20 million, but Kormakur has never been a big budget director and his movies usually look great. Production begins this summer and filming will take place in Iceland.
