In Theaters : WAR HORSE (2011)

Official Synopsis : Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets-British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter-before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man's Land. The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse-an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure.

What to Expect : An old-fashioned emotional drama benefitting from Steven Spielberg's unmistakable narrative style and excellent production values. A tear-jerker, a war movie and a family flick, all in one.

Critical Response : Positive. Most critics were enthusiastic about Spielberg's "War Horse", showering the movie with praises. According to these critics, the movie succeeds as a both a gritty war movie and a heartfelt family adventure through Spielberg's assured direction, aided immensely by the efforts of cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, editor Michael Kahn and composer John Williams. Some, however, felt that the movie is uneven and too simplistic in nature. Rated 76% on Rottentomatoes.com from 101 positive and 32 negative reviews (average score : 7.2 out of 10).
