Tom Cruise, ex-Army Cop in ONE SHOT

Tom Cruise continues to tend to his action star image as he keeps piling on projects that put him in the shoes of butt-kicking characters. This December we'll see him in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol", and he's also signed on to play in the sci-fi epic "Oblivion". Now he has officially joined the cast of "One Shot" a thriller based on a novel by Lee Child, a british author who has written fifteen novels between 1997 and 2010, all of which follow the same character, Jack Reacher, a former United States Army Military Police Major. Tom Cruise will star as Reacher. Here's a quick synopsis of the novel, courtesy of Wikipedia :
"In an innocent heartland city, five are shot dead by an expert sniper for no apparent reason. One of the dead is intended to die but the others are killed to disguise and confuse. The police quickly identify and arrest the alleged culprit, and build a slam-dunk case with iron-clad evidence. But the accused man claims he's innocent and asks for the assistance of Jack Reacher. Reacher, who had previously investigated this man in the Army, is curious and decides to investigate the ostensibly open-and-shut case, and soon finds himself involved in a complex cover-up".
The movie will be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also co-wrote "M:I - Ghost Protocol" and "Valkyrie". An early draft of the script was completed by Josh Olson ("A History of Violence"). No other information is available at this point, but it's reasonable to believe there will be more casting announcements soon. Paramount Pictures is aiming for a 2013 release date.
