Official Synopsis : Loud music. Pornography. Burning **** to the ground. These are a few of Hesher's favorite things. And they are what Hesher (Joseph Gordon Levitt) brings into the lives of TJ (Devin Brochu) and his father, Paul (Rainn Wilson) when he takes up residence in their garage uninvited. Grief-stricken by the loss of TJ's mother in a car accident, Paul can't muster the strength to evict the strange squatter, and soon the long-haired, tattooed Hesher becomes a fixture in the household. Like a force of nature, Hesher's anarchy shakes the family out of their grief and helps them embrace life once more. --(c) New Market Films
What to Expect : Well, just your average indie flick, filled with irreverent attitude towards life and public property. On a positive note, the movie features a neat performance from Joseph Gordon Levitt, so it might be worth seeing.
Critical Response : Mixed reception. Some critics loved the dark comedy and especially Levitt's performance, while others lamented that the dark side of the movie, while interesting, is ultimately pointless in the movie as a whole. Stephen Whitty of the Newark Star-Ledger surmised that Gordon-Levitt is a sly and inventive actor, and it can be genuinely fun to watch him having so much fun. But his character wears out his welcome fast." Moira MacDonald of the Seattle Times argued that this movie is "A grim little drama that seems to exist in order to give the talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman a chance to look extra-scruffy". 52% fresh on Rottentomatoes.com, with 27 positive reviews and 25 negative ones.
