NEW ON DVD/BLU-RAY - Apr. 5, 2011

TRON: LEGACY (Five-Disc Combo)

The sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic needs no introduction, because, well, it's been hyped so much, you need to have lived under a rock to not have heard about it. Typical blockbuster fare lifted by amazing visuals, a great soundtrack by Daft Punk and Jeff "The Dude" Bridges' presence. It also benefits from excellent sound design, nominated for an Oscar, which should sound amazing on a 5.1/7.1 setup. Indeed, this movie is a dream come true for home theater owners. So it's shallow fun, who gives a damn ? Turn up that volume. Available as a Five-Disc Combo (Blu-Ray 3D/Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy).

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA:
THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TRADER

Here's another one of those Narnia movies, the third in the series. It's a decent one too, directed by the legendary Michael Apted. But, somehow, it feels like the Narnia saga has not quite found its place on the movie market, overshadowed by the much greater success of the Harry Potter series. Still, it's well worth acquiring if you're a fan. Everyone else should either start at the beginning, or just leave it. It's available as a Two-Disc Edition on either DVD, or Blu-Ray.

TAXI DRIVER (Blu-Ray)

"Are you talkin' to me ?" De Niro's insanely popular quote from "Taxi Driver" must sound quite familiar. This 1976 classic, directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader, has been quoted and referenced to the point where everyone has, at some point, become aware of its existence. Also, a very young Jodie Foster plays an Oscar nominated supporting role. Scorsese's masterpiece is now available on Blu-Ray with a ton of Special Features and the usual sharp audio and video. Previous incarnations of this movie also exist as a Two-Disc Collector's Edition DVD.

LITTLE FOCKERS

And now, one of Robert De Niro's more infamous movies. I'm sure he and Stiller, and the rest of the returning cast members, have been somehow forced to do this movie by some contractual bindings the studios enforced. There are no words for how brutally bad this movie is, but I'll settle for just mentioning that it has received three Razzie nominations, of which it actually won one (Jessica Alba - Worst Supporting Actress). This trainwreck is available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
