In Theaters, Apr 22, 2011 : WATER FOR ELEPHANTS

Love and Elephants. Quite a mix.
Official Synopsis : Based on the acclaimed bestseller, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS presents an unexpected romance in a uniquely compelling setting. Veterinary school student Jacob meets and falls in love with Marlena, a star performer in a circus of a bygone era. They discover beauty amidst the world of the Big Top, and come together through their compassion for a special elephant. Against all odds -- including the wrath of Marlena's charismatic but dangerous husband, August -- Jacob and Marlena find lifelong love.-- (c) Fox

What to Expect : No doubt, because its based on a bestseller, they expect it to perform well at the box-office. And I'm sure it's going to do quite well. But these movies have a tendency to be awkward and mediocre, despite the incredible talent involved in making them. Here, the cast is top notch and the director has a keen visual sense (not necessarily a narrative one) and his previous movies have done well at the box-office ("Constantine", "I Am Legend"). Theoretically it should be worth seeing just to find out if they got it right. For you romantics out there, this is an easy sell. Everyone else, should consider their alternatives.
