RANGO

Synopsis : A chameleon that aspires to be a swashbuckling hero finds himself in a Western town plagued by bandits and is forced to literally play the role in order to protect it.

Starring (voice) : Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy

Director : Gore Verbinski

Screenplay : John Logan

Running Time : 107 min

Rating : PG for rude humor, language, action and smoking

What to Expect : Cute animation feature, the first ever for visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic, directed by Pirates of the Caribbean's Gore Verbinski. Expect plenty of visual treats, funky art direction and lots of Sergio Leone references. Might not be all it's cracked up to be, but Verbinski has a keen visual flair.

THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU

Synopsis : The affair between a politician and a ballerina is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart.

Starring : Matt Damon, Emily Blunt

Director : George Nolfi

Screenplay : George Nolfi, based on a short story by Phillip K. Dick

Running Time : 99 min

Rating : PG-13 for brief strong language, some sexuality and a violent image.

What to Expect : Love conquers all, even nefarious otherworldly forces. Phillip K. Dick's stories have a dark edge to them, which translated in equally dark movies ("Blade Runner", "Total Recall"), but this one seems to be a glossier retro-styled adaptation. Fans of the master's writing will probably need to trim their expectations a bit.

BEASTLY

Synopsis : A modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

Starring : Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen

Director : Daniel Barnz

Screenplay : Daniel Barnz, based on a novel by Alex Flinn

Running Time : 95 min

Rating : PG-13 for language including crude comments, brief violence and some thematic material (drug references edited out)

What to Expect : Exactly what they said : A modern Beauty and the Beast story, with every anachronism it can drag along. It's probably just as bad as you'd expect it to be and this is where the whole "eye of the beholder" thing comes into play. You might want to brace yourself for some really bad acting too.

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT

Synopsis : Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin is a directionless 23-year-old who confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store. Matt's silent protest against maturity ends when his high school crush invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party. With his cynical twin sister Wendy and best friend Barry, Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening in the Go-Go 80s.

Starring : Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler

Director : Michael Dowse

Screenplay : Jackie Filgo, Jeff Filgo

Running Time : 114 min

Rating : R for language, sexual content and drug use

What to Expect : Outrageous raunchy comedy, similar to "Hot Tub Time Machine", but without the time travel plot. Expect some hard content (rated R), maybe even an Unrated version later on, but whether or not it's going to be any fun depends on how well the director can employ these elements to work for laughs.
