SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Casts Lucy Liu As Villain

"Elementary" and "Why Women Kill" star Lucy Liu has joined the cast of the upcoming DC Comics movie "Shazam! Fury of the Gods". She will play one of the film's main villains, the god Kalypso, sister of Helen Mirren's villainous character Hespera.

David F. Sandberg returns to helm the movie from a script by Henry Gayden. Zachary Levi and Asher Angel are also back as the titular superhero and his teenage alter ego Billy Batson. The cast also includes "West Side Story" star Rachel Zegler, who is playing a currently unknown role.

Both Hespera and Kalypso were not featured in the DC Comics, but they are the daughters of the Greek god Atlas, who is one of the sources of Shazam's powers, and has appeared to duel members of the Justice League.

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will open in theaters on June 2, 2023.

Lucy Liu can be seen this year in the music dramedy "Stage Mother" in which she stars alongside Jacki Weaver and Adrian Grenier. The film will be released in August. She is also attached to star in an untitled ABC workplace comedy from Shana Goldberg-Meehan.
