Directed by Stuart Hazeldine based on the novel "The Shack: Where Tragedy Confronts Eternity" written by William P. Young, Wayne Jacobsen and Brad Cumnmings, "The Shack" tells the story of Mack Phillips (Sam Worthington), a man whose faith and life have been broken by a tragedy. A mysterious telegram, supposedly from God, tells him to come to "The Shack", the vacant cabin where Mack's worst nightmares came true. Reluctantly he accepts, and what he experiences there will help him transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever
The cast also incldues Octavia Spencer, Tim McGraw, Alice Braga, Radha Mitchell, Avraham Aviv Alush and Sumire Matsubara.
"The Shack" opened in theaters on March 3rd, 2017. It received negative reviews, but a solid response from moviegoers. CinemaScore reports an "A" score from its opening night exit polls. The film went on to gross an impressive $16.1 million in its opening weekend.

"Based on the New York Times best-selling novel, The Shack takes us on a father's uplifting spiritual journey. After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips [Sam Worthington] spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa [Octavia Spencer]. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever."
