AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Images: First Look at Ultron, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

Avengers Age of Ultron Official Images First Look

The first official images for Joss Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" have been released via Entertainment Weekly. The images offer a first look at the film's central characters. The story sets the Avengers in a battle against a new foe, the artificially intelligent robot Ultron, who will be played by James Spader through performance capture technology. The difference in Ultron's origin story will be that the robot is now created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as an Iron Man replacement, because Stark is now "a little burned and traumatized" and is determined to take a break from fighting super-villains.

The sequel also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Entertainment Weekly Interview
"Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) lacks the human touch, and his superior intellect quickly determines that life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of Public Enemy No. 1: Human beings. “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Whedon says, rubbing his hands together. “He’s on a mission,” the filmmaker adds, and smiles thinly. “He wants to save us.”"
