NEWS UPDATE: X-Men Apocalypse, Amanda Seyfried, Indiana Jones, 22 Jump Street, Freddy Mercury Biopic

Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct "X-Men: Apocalypse"

It looks like director Bryan Singer is determined to continue his work on the X-Men franchise. Next year, Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past", the most ambitious X-Men movie ever, will be released. However, it has also been confirmed that the director will pick up another sequel intended for release in 2016. The new movie will be called "X-Men: Apocalypse" and it will focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast. Wolverine will probably not be featured in Apocalypse, but fans of the clawed superhero should not worry, because Hugh Jackman and "The Wolverine" director James Mangold are working on a new Wolverine solo effort. We also have a release date for "X-Men: Apocalypse", which is May 27, 2016.

Amanda Seyfried to Star in "HE'S F***ING PERFECT"

Amanda Seyfried will star in the comedy "He's F***ing Perfect" directed by Jake Szymanski and written by Lauryn Kahn. Seyfried will star as an "Internet savvy woman convinces her friend to dump her new boyfriend so she can date him instead." The project was picked up by Fox in 2000 with Emma Stone set to star in the lead role, but things didn't move forward, so the script eventually found its way to Universal. The film will be produced by Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messic. Director Jake Szymanski has directed several Funny or Die shorts and Saturday Night Live episodes.

Disney Takes Over "Indiana Jones" Franchise

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm everyone turned to the "Star Wars" franchise, but the big question was what would happen to the "Indiana Jones" franchise since Paramount released all four movies. Disney has now announced that it has reached an agreement with Paramount and has acquired the distribution and marketing rights to all future Indiana Jones movies. Paramount will still retain the distribution rights to the four existing installments. There has been talk of a possible fifth movie, but no official announcement has been made. Since after taking over Lucasfilm, Disney has immediately proceeded to produce three new "Star Wars" sequels, I believe it's quite possible that we will get some new Indiana Jones sequels, as well.

22 Jump Street Synopsis Released

The sequel to the "21 Jump Street" remake starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill is currently in production and the filmmakers have released the first official synopsis for the comedy. The sequel will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and also stars Ice Cube, Amber Stevens and Craig Roberts. "22 Jump Street" opens in theaters on June 13, 2014. Here is the official synopsis:
"After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

Ben Whishaw to Play Freddie Mercury in Biopic

The Freddy Mercury biopic can be classified as a troubled production. For a long time, Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to star as the Queen frontman, but creative differences with Queen's band members led to the departure of Cohen. Director Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables", "The King's Speech") was at one point in talks to direct the film, but once Cohen dropped out, Hooper also turned away from the project. Now things appear to be moving forward. Ben Whishaw ("Cloud Atlas") has been chosen to play Mercury and director Dexter Fletcher ("Wild Bill") has signed on to direct. The film's screenplay has been written by Peter Morgan ("Rush", "The Queen").
