CASTING NEWS: Leonardo DiCaprio, Bryan Cranston, Kelsey Grammer, Aaron Eckhart, Garrett Hedlund

Leonardo DiCaprio Wilson Biopic
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the Woodrow Wilson biopic "Wilson". The film will be based on the biography written by A. Scott Berg which focuses on the US President's handling of World War I, the Federal Reserve and the League of Nations. Here is the synopsis for the biography:
"One hundred years after his inauguration, Woodrow Wilson still stands as one of the most influential figures of the twentieth century, and one of the most enigmatic. And now, after more than a decade of research and writing, Pulitzer Prize-winning author A. Scott Berg has completed Wilson–the most personal and penetrating biography ever written about the 28th President.

In addition to the hundreds of thousands of documents in the Wilson Archives, Berg was the first biographer to gain access to two recently-discovered caches of papers belonging to those close to Wilson. From this material, Berg was able to add countless details–even several unknown events–that fill in missing pieces of Wilson’s character and cast new light on his entire life.

From the scholar-President who ushered the country through its first great world war to the man of intense passion and turbulence , from the idealist determined to make the world “safe for democracy” to the stroke-crippled leader whose incapacity and the subterfuges around it were among the century’s greatest secrets, the result is an intimate portrait written with a particularly contemporary point of view – a book at once magisterial and deeply emotional about the whole of Wilson’s life, accomplishments, and failings. This is not just Wilson the icon – but Wilson the man."

Bryan Cranston Trumbo

Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") is set to star in the biopic "Trumbo" which tells the story of Dalton Trumbo, a blacklisted screenwriter in the 1950s who was jailed for refusing to answer to the Congress’ infamous House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Trumbo wrote the screenplays of classics like "Spartacus", "Papillon" and "Roman Holiday". The writer eventually cleared his name and helped end the blacklist once and for all. The film is directed by Jay Roach ("Game Change") from a screenplay by John McNamara ("Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer").

Kelsey Grammer ("Boss", "Frasier") has joined the cast of "The Expendables 3". Grammer will star as Bonaparte, an ex-mercenary who aids the titular aging heroes in their mission. Initially the role was rumored to be played by Nicolas Cage, but apparently negotiations fell through. "The Expendables 3" is directed by Patrick Hughes and it stars Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Wesley Snipes. Angelina Jolie Directs WWII Movie

Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy") has signed on to star in Angelina Jolie's next directorial project. The film will be based on non-fiction book written by Lauren Hillenbrand which tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, a WWII bomber pilot whose plane crashed at sea in 1943. Zamperini and two collegues floated adrift for 47 days and were eventually picked up by Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp and endured severe tortures. Jack O'Connell ("300: Rise of an Empire") will star as Zamperini, while Hedlund will play one of Zamperini's collegues, Commander John Fitzgerald. Angelina Jolie is working with some impressive talents here. The most recent draft of the script was written by Joel and Ethan Coen and the cinematography will be handled by Roger Deakins ("Skyfall", "No Country for Old Men"). The release date has been scheduled for December 25, 2014.
