Vin Diesel Joins GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and SOLDIERS OF THE SUN

Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel ("Fast & Furious", "Riddick") has joined two new potential film franchises. The first is the Marvel adaptation of "Guardians of the Galaxy". Diesel will voice the character Groot from the comics and although his involvement in the film has not been officially announced by Marvel, the actor has been quite vocal about the role. Vin Diesel has previously voiced an animated character in the 1999 "The Iron Giant" directed by Brad Bird ("Ratatouille"). "Guardians of the Galaxy" is directed by James Gunn and also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou and Peter Serafinowicz. Although Marvel is obviously looking to turn this into a multi-installment series, it's one of the tougher comics to market to audiences, so I think the word "potential" I used at the beginning of the article is justified at this point, despite the fact that it's Marvel we're talking about.

The second "potential" franchise Diesel is involved in is the sci-fi action project "Soldiers of the Sun". The actor will also produce the film. Writting duties have been assigned to Arash Amel ("I Am Legend 2", "Grace of Monaco"). According to THR, the story takes place in "in a post-apocalyptic future and focuses on a squad of soldiers that searches for a fabled city of gold while on a tour of duty in Mexico liberating it from an alien race known as Orcs.".
