Milla Jovovich to Star in Modern Adaptation of Shakespeare's CYMBELINE

Milla Jovovich Picture
Milla Jovovich ("Resident Evil: Retribution") has signed on to play the Queen in Michael Almereyda’s modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s "Cymbeline". Her character is the second wife of King Cymbeline and a typical Shakespearean manipulator. The King will be played by Ed Harris. The story, in Almereyda's vision, will unfold as a battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang, instead of Romans and Britons. Furthermore, the film has been described as a mix of "Sons of Anarchy" and "Romeo + Juliet". The film also stars Ethan Hawke and Penn Badgley. Hawke has previously worked with director Almereyda on the 2000 modern adaptation of "Hamlet". Filming is expected to begin on August 19. Here is the official press release:
"Set to start principal photography on August 19, 2013 in New York City, CYMBELINE unfolds as an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America. In the vein of Sons of Anarchy and in the style of ROMEO + JULIET, CYMBELINE is a fresh take on a universal story of love, betrayal and revenge.

Playing the Queen, Milla Jovovich was most recently seen reprising her role as ‘Alice’ in the fifth installment of the Sony Screen Gems RESIDENT EVIL franchise. The films have become the longest running franchise with a female lead and have collectively brought in US$915 million at the worldwide box office. Other film roles include THE FIFTH ELEMENT and STONE."
