In Theaters : UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING (2012)

Official Synopsis : Underworld Awakening brings a stunning new dimension to the epic battle between Vampires and Lycans, as the first film in the franchise to shoot in 3D. Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Genre: Action, Horror, Fantasy

Critical Response : Negative. The fourth installment in the "Underworld" franchise was not screened in advance for critics. But, as soon as the critics got a chance to see it, it became obvious that the filmmakers had good reasons to shut reviewers out on opening day. The general consensus seems to be that this sequel attempts to justifiy its existence by filling its running time with mindless action. There isn't much of a plot, which made some critics happy ("...thankfully less mythology-driven than previous installments.") and there's plenty here for fans, but anyone who has no prior experience with the "Underworld" movies will not be impressed. On a positive note, it is very short. "Awakening" is the typical January movie. Rated 22% on Rottentomatoes.com from 6 positive and 21 negative reviews (Average Score : 3.5 out of 10).
