Marvel and Disney have officially announced that Patty Jenkins will direct "Thor 2". If the name doesn't sound familiar, here are some facts about her directorial experience. She directed the 2003 award-winning drama "Monster", starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, based on the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The movie won Theron a lot of awards, including the Oscar, while Jenkins herself was nominated for a Golden Berlin Bear and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Also, this year, Patty Jenkins won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the pilot episode of "The Killing", a crime drama which follows the investigation of a young girl's death by combining three interlocking stories. So, I'd say that as far as her dramatic resume goes, she's got what it takes. On the other hand, she's never had any experience with big-budget visual effects extravaganzas. I'm not sure if it's a good thing, or a bad thing, but if the studios believe in her ability, then fans should at least be happy that they've got another solid director to follow Kenneth Branagh, who decided not to return for the sequel. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston will reprise their roles. "Thor 2" will be released in the US on November 15, 2013.
