In Theaters : FOOTLOOSE (2011)

Official Synopsis : Writer/Director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film. Ren MacCormack (Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

Genre: Drama, Music, Comedy

What to Expect : A carbon copy remake of the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. You get the same characters, the same plot, and about 90-95% of the same scenes from the original. What's new are the actors, a 2011 lifestyle update and a couple of minor story tweaks. That's about it. And, to be honest, Kenny Wormald is no Kevin Bacon.

Critical Response : Mixed to Positive. While most critics acknowledged the fact that the movie keeps very close (sometimes too close) to the original and the story is still preposterous, they also conceded that it has an undeniably vibrant energy that will appeal to modern audiences, "delivering exactly what it promises" (Leonard Maltin). Rated 73% on Rottentomatoes.com from 97 positive and 36 negative reviews.
