In Theaters : STRAW DOGS (2011)

Official Synopsis : David and Amy Sumner (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth), a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father's death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy's ex-boyfriend Charlie (Alexander Skarsgard), leading to a violent confrontation.

Genre: Thriller

What to Expect : An updated version of the 1971 thriller directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Dustin Hoffman. The violence is still there, brutal and gritty, and the cast is pretty good, but don't expect this to be in any way superior to the original.

Critical Response : Mixed to Negative. There were some enthusiastic positive reviews out there, that praised director Rod Lurie for his ability to use the violence and tension to the movie's benefit and even the harshest of reviewers conceded that the cast does a good job. In the end, though, most critics bashed the movie for being just another tired remake that doesn't offer much in terms of novelty. Rated 37% on Rottentomatoes.com from 21 positive and 36 negative reviews.
