In Theaters : BURKE AND HARE (2010)

Official Synopsis : From John Landis, the director of Animal House and The Blues Brothers, Burke & Hare is adark comedy/thriller staring Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry and Isla Fisher as the unfortunate denizens of 19th century Edinburgh, a setting rife with murder, theft, prostitution, corpse snatching, experimental medicine, and of course Shakespeare.

Genre: Comedy, Horror

What to Expect : Very dark comedy which is most likely to encourage "Oh-No-They-Didn't !" quiet chuckles rather than genuine "Laugh-Out-Loud" reactions to the gross-out gags. The cast is pretty good though and it's nice to see Serkis do more than motion capture.

Critical Response : Negative. While most critics conceded that the cast makes solid efforts to make it work, the movie is ultimately unpleasant and short of solid laughs. The critics blamed director John Landis for not being able to find the right tone and squeeze the morbid situations for all their comic potential. Rated 33% on Rottentomatoes.com from 13 positive and 26 negative reviews.
