In Theaters : COLOMBIANA (2011)

Official Synopsis : In the action film Colombiana, Zoe Saldana plays Cataleya, a young woman who has grown up to be an assassin after witnessing the murder of her parents as a child. Turning herself into a professional killer and working for her uncle, she remains focused on her ultimate goal: to hunt down and get revenge on the mobster responsible for her parents' deaths

Genre: Action

What to Expect : Revenge flick and over-the-top action movie from Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, the writing team that brough us "Taken", starring Liam Neeson, and "Transporter", starring Jason Statham. Director Olivier Megaton himself worked on "Transporter 3". So you see, it all makes perfect sense. For Besson this is a bit of a throwback to his 1990 classic "Nikita", but I doubt "Colombiana" will be remembered a week from now.

Critical Response : Mixed. Most reviewers appreciated the movie for what it is : a sound and fury action flick. Zoe Saldana's awesome physical performance received praises from all critics and is being hailed as a rising action star. The movie itself, however, is largely considered to be derivative and preposterous. Rated 56% on Rottentomatoes.com from 10 positive and 8 negative reviews.
