THE FIGHTER 2 & 3 Officially Announced

Mark Wahlberg preparing
for another round at the Oscars.
Yep, it's official. Straight from the mouth of Mark Wahlberg, who not only starred in the Academy Award winning "The Fighter", but also served as producer and fought hard for the movie to get made. Obviously, he's the ultimate source for this kind of information. The announcement came during the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards, where "The Fighter" won the award for "Guy Movie of the Year", when Wahlberg included the following in the acceptance speech : "We left out the Aturo Gatti fights for a reason…Because that’s for ‘Fighter 2′. We’re not going to do ‘Fighter’ 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, but we’re gonna do 2. We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy".

"The Fighter" was one of the best movies of 2010, winning a lot of critical acclaim and several major awards for supporting actors Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. It is unkown at this time (as in there is no official mention of it) whether or not director David O. Russel will return to helm the sequels, or if any of the actors will reprise their roles. Still, I'm pretty sure Wahlberg will be back as "Irish" Micky Ward.
