The latest news about the two-part adaptation of "The Hobbit" regards the official confirmation by Peter Jackson that Orland Bloom will be reprising his role as Legolas, the arrow-happy elf. This is only one of the many other "Lord of the Rings" actors that will return for a new Middle-Earth adventure. Among them, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Andy Serkis (in motion capture gear) as Gollum, Elijah Wood as Frodo, Sir Ian Holm as the older Bilbo and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, confirming at least informally that the movie's structure will feature scenes that are not part of Tolkien's novel. If the movie's really good, however, I can't see any reason to diss Jackson for adding a few things here and there. "The Hobbit" is in production at this point, with a December 2012 release in aim for the first part, and a 2013 release for the second part.
